Casa Angel e Isabel – Owner interview

Last modified: October 30, 2022

To where have you arrived?

To the house of Angel Manuel Camilo González, his wife Isabel, their daughter, her husband and an uncle of 70 years old. Angel is an engineer by profession, today he dedicates himself exclusively to the house and its guests. His true passion is his car, a Chevrolet Belair of 1955 which he worships ‘’like a precious stone’’.

Where is it?

In Punta Gorda, Cienfuegos, Cuba.

A family house

‘’Our house was built in the 1920’s and inherited by our grandparents in May of 1961, at that time the family stated making some adjustments and remodeling, always minding the original structure because it was already considered a historic monument’’. From the year 2000 they received their first guests in a very familiar environment.

Angel’s favorite place

‘’The terrace in front of the sea. We love to enjoy the view. From there we contemplate the bay of Cienfuegos and the mountains of Macizo de Guamuaya of the Escambray. And when the sun is too warm, we go for a swim. We offer our guests a refreshing cocktail that we prepare at home (mojitos, piña colada, cuba libre, etc…) or a simple beer. All this makes the place even more attractive’’.

Hospitality

If there is a moment that Angel and Isabel enjoy the most, it is when they receive their guests. ‘’We would like for them to feel at home’’. Courtesy is their key, it’s that ‘’kind’’ treatment is the seal of the House Angel and Isabel

Particularities

The views of the rooms give the impression of being very close to the water and the terrace is spacious with a beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset.

The flavor of House Angel and Isabel

Isabel loves to cook, she has her own specialties: a potato cream made in her own style and a caramel flan. ‘’We have usual clients that order this dishes in every stay. Some ended up taking the recipes back to their country with them. There was one time that they decided to take the flan back with them in their luggage as a gift to their children; they stated that nothing really compares to it!’’.

An ilustrious neighborhood

At just 50 meters from the house is the Palacio del Valle, a very sticking sight. It is one of the most scenic buildings of Cienfuegos as considered one of the jewels of Cuban architecture. Built in 1917 in an eclectic style, it was born from the imagination of its owners and the ingenuity of the architects and artisans from different parts of the world (France, Italy, Arabia and Cuba). ‘’The Palacio del Valle is exaggeratedly compared to the Taj Mahal, but it still is without a doubt one of the most beautiful buildings in Cuba’’.

A life between terraces

The house possess 5 terraces which means that experiencing life from this architectural perspective is also one of seals of the House Angel and Isabel. The Junior Suite has its own private terrace. It also has a garden on ground level with its own little dock on the water.
