La Colmena is the first shop in Cuba that specializes in the sale of honey and its derivatives, established by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Apiculture Enterprise. It opened its doors in October 2017 in Old Havana, and thus began a project of Apicuba’s retail services which enables direct contact with its consumers.
The center offers a variety of products with high nutritional value, such as jars and jam made of or with honey; and pharmacological use, as they function as antioxidant, body-building, anti-anaemic and immunostimulant agents, according to the company’s specialized catalogue.
The company’s range of products such as shampoo, conditioner, creams and soaps made from raw materials extracted one hundred percent from the country’s beekeeping system is quite surprising, which shows how committed this enterprise is to expanding knowledge about the benefits of honey in general.
There is currently a project to extend the network in other provinces of the country such as Santiago de Cuba and Sancti Spíritus, in addition to tourist centres such as Varadero.
